About Jotly

We Do Your Books So You Don’t.

Jotly is bookkeeping software that works in the background. It reads your bank feed, sorts what it can, asks about what it can’t, and closes the month. That’s the whole pitch. The rest of this page is why we think it’s worth doing properly.

01 The problem

Bookkeeping Was Never the Business

Small business owners and freelancers don’t start out wanting to reconcile statements. They want to make pots, write copy or fix boilers. The books are a tax on that, and most tools make the tax bigger by asking for accounting vocabulary up front.

  1. 01

    The chore piles up

Receipts sit in a drawer for a quarter. By the time anyone sorts them, nobody remembers what the $237.85 charge was for.

  2. 02

    The software speaks jargon

Journals, contra accounts, accruals. Fine for a bookkeeper, a wall for the owner who just wants to know if they made money.

  3. 03

    Automation that hides its mistakes

Tools that auto-sort quietly and wrongly are worse than a spreadsheet, because you stop checking. We built for the opposite.

02 Principles

Five Rules We Hold Ourselves To

Rule one

Honesty

Show the doubt

When Jotly isn’t sure, it puts the transaction in a review queue and says so. A confident wrong answer is the worst thing bookkeeping software can produce.

Rule two

Memory

Fix it once

Every correction you make becomes a rule that applies to past and future matches. If you correct the same coffee shop twice, that’s our bug.

Rule three

Access

Read-only, always

Bank connections can see transactions. They cannot move money. That isn’t a setting, it’s how the connection is made.

Rule four

Plain words

Say it simply

“Money in,” “money out,” “needs review.” The accounting terms are there when your accountant wants them, not before.

Rule five

Ownership

Your data leaves with you

Everything you’ve entered exports as plain files. If you outgrow Jotly, you take your books with you.

03 How it’s built

Built to Be Checked, Not Trusted Blindly

  • Bank feed first

Transactions arrive through a read-only connection to your bank and cards, then get sorted as they land, not in a nightly batch you wait on.

  • Rules before guesses

Your own corrections run first. Jotly’s general guesses only fill the gaps, and they’re labelled so you can tell the difference.

  • Reconciliation that points

If the statement and your books disagree, Jotly names the transaction that’s off rather than handing over a list of maybes.

  • Support is an inbox

Questions go to hello@jotlycreative.com and get read by the people who build the product. No phone tree, no chatbot maze.

Live detail

A correction becoming a rule

Teaching it takes one click

This is the moment the product is built around: you change a category once and Jotly offers to apply it everywhere it fits.

04 Where it’s going

What We’re Working On, and What We Aren’t

No dates we can’t keep. Here is the direction, in the order we care about it.

Better receipt matching

In progress

Handwritten receipts are our weak spot today. Improving how Jotly reads them, and how it asks when two charges look alike, comes before anything flashy.

Smarter review queue

In progress

Group doubtful transactions by merchant so one answer clears many. The aim is a shorter first month, not a prettier one.

More ways to talk to your accountant

Next

Cleaner hand-offs, comments on a single transaction, and exports that match what accountants actually ask for.

What we won’t build

On purpose

We won’t file your taxes, hold your money or sell your transaction data. Jotly prepares; people with the right credentials sign.

05 Your move

Pick a Plan and Let It Start Sorting

Annual plans from $89. Read-only bank connection. You’ll still review its work; you just won’t be the one doing it.
